Share Article

It’s our first long weekend of 2020 which happens to coincide with Valentine’s day this year. While most of you have probably planned a thoughtful evening with a loved one or in my case, a #galentinesday happy hour, there is a whole slew of activities for the whole family over the weekend and on the holiday Monday. If you are wondering what to do around the city this weekend, there are plenty of activities. From free events to sports, the city has a wide array of events and activities to keep any age at play. Secondly, most community centres are offering a ton a family fun activities like skating, swimming and exercise classes. For example, Creekside community centre has events celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. Hard to believe that was 10 years ago!? There is a volunteer ‘blue jacket’ meet up, a pin exchange and an event where you can ‘Train like an Olympian’. Check here for a list of all the community centres and what’s happening: https://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/parks-and-recreation.aspx

WHAT TO DO:

1. Train Like an Olympian! Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Winter Games and train like an Olympian. Take part in a 10 station, 10 round, high-intensity Olympian inspired workout that would even make elite athletes sweat! February 16, 2020 | 2-330pm at Creekside Community Centre Register here!

2. Illuminate Yaletown 2020

Illuminate Yaletown is back for its 11th consecutive year. This is a free light show and is set to take over the 1200 block of Hamilton Street for two days. This year is focused on paying homage to the 10 year anniversary of the Vancouver Olympics. Most noteworthy- amazing photo opportunities and jaw-dropping visual effects. Details here.

Mount Pleasant Feb 17 | 10:15am to 12:15pm @ Community Centre, 1 Kingsway   4. The Vancouver Aquarium Get together with the family at the Vancouver Aquarium! This is expected to be a busy weekend so prepare for bigger crowds than usual. But it’s a great opportunity to visit the aquarium and spend some time in beautiful Stanley Park! Details here. Saturday, February 15 to Monday, February 17, 2020, children 12 and under will receive FREE entry.   5. Science World I loved Lego as a kid, so the Tower of Tomorrow display at Science World will be a hit with any Lego fans out there. Moreover, there are a few permanent galleries at Science World to check out! Open 10-6pm Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.   Above all, I think it’s important to get out there spend some time with your loved ones. There really is a lot do in and around the city this weekend. I’ll be posting some new open houses later this week as well so if you find yourself around Olympic Village and want to see some gorgeous homes, reach out!
