The Vancouver Park Board is halfway through the re-imagined East Park Project set for completion in 2023/2024. This 6 acre area of grassland, trees and gravel between the Creekside Community Centre and Science World has been under review and plans are being put into place for a conceptual public park plan.
This huge project would see the redesign of a largely underutilized portion of Olympic Village East into a space where the public can gather to relax, play and enjoy nature. In addition, “These parks will be innovative and redefine the approach to waterfront public open space, reflect community values, demonstrate resiliency to a changing climate, and embrace the City’s commitment to supporting and enhancing biodiversity and the ecological health of the land and water in False Creek’s east basin,” says a park board staff report.
The timeline for the East Park Project is as follows:
Summer 2020 (Complete)
Build temporary wildflower pollinator meadow, walking paths, and seating areas
